Top Things to do in Kuala Lumpur

If you have any other cool suggestions or places drop a comment below!

The Malls- Pavillion & Suria KLCC

There are two main malls is Kuala Lumpur, both equally good as each other too! The Pavilion mall is in the heart of Bukit Bintang, it has all the shops, restaurants and spots you need plus more! If they don’t have what you are looking for in the mall there is a huge selection of places outside dotted around the streets nearby. The food from our point of view was far better in the Pavilion mall with a wide selection of different cuisines as well as a slightly more relaxed atmosphere.

The Suria KLCC mall has been highlighted as “the best mall in Kuala Lumpur” however there isn’t much in the two so it is down to personal preference! The mall has a few more shops and places to pick from but can be overwhelming at times, especially if you have been on your feet all day. The mall has a great park just outside where you can watch the water fountain show in the evening as well as an Aquarium and not to forget the Petronas Towers on the other side! They also have a tunnel which runs directly from the mall to key attractions meaning you can get around whilst being protected from the elements of nature!

Petronas Twin Towers

The Petronas Twin towers are one of the main attractions to visit when in Kuala Lumpur. The Twin Towers both stand at 450 meters tall! The Skybridge on the 41st and 42nd floor and is a great opportunity for you to get an inner-city view. You can then head to the Observation Desk, taking you right to the top where you can get some more skyline photos and read/learn about the history of the Towers. The Towers are actually used for commercial offices, one Tower is occupied by the Petronas company and the other used by many other international businesses.

Menara Kuala Lumper/ KL Tower

Coming in at 421 meters, this is the tallest telecommunication tower in South East Asia. The Tower has been hosting and providing events to the public as well as adrenaline base jumping. The Tower also has a glass box hanging off the side which you can queue up and have your photo taken! The staff were fine with taking them on our phone too so we didn’t have to pay for their versions. There wasn’t a huge difference between the Petronas and KL Tower however if you are there its worth doing both just to get them ticked off your bucket list.

Batu Caves

The Batu Caves should not be missed! This is definitely a place we recommend visiting as you will be taken away by the pristine temples, colourful steps and the Colossal gold painted statue of Murugan. It feels more cultural and traditional than the other tourist sites as you’ll find people from local schools, communities and tourists.

Elephant Sanctuary

If you love animals, this is the place to be. Although it might be a little far out, it definitely is worth visiting where you can easily lose track of time enjoying God’s amazing creatures. Depending on what you have arranged, you can touch, feed and bath the elephants. They have elephants of all different sizes – the baby elephants are the cutest!

Firefly Tour

The Firefly tour is a great way to finish off a long day of site seeing. You can relax and see the light from the firefly’s dancing in the nearby trees. This is quite romantic to sit and watch with your partner or could be a family trip where you enjoy the peaceful tranquility from the boat gliding into the river.

Petaling Street Market

Petaling Street Market is a fair walk away from the city center of Kuala Lumpur. This place is definitely a recommendation as you can do a lot of a fun and friendly haggling for the goods you want. Most of the market owners have a good sense of humor and don’t want to lose a sale so you’re very likely to pay ridiculously cheap prices for good quality products.

Jalan Alor

Wow, a full street dedicated to amazing food? Who wouldn’t love that! Honestly, Jalan Alor will accommodate for the most extravagant – picky eaters. There is something there for everyone. Food, street-food and restaurant dining. You can’t beat the food cooked by the residents of Kuala Lumpur, so be sure to give it ago. The atmosphere here is relaxing and you can spend hours socialising. It is pretty safe here too!

Aquaria KLCC

A great little gem in the Suria KLCC Mall, An Aquarium hidden at the back end of the mall offers some great wildlife from all over the globe for you to exhibit. We actually ended up going here as we were stuck in the Mall due to the storm going on outside! however it ended up being really enjoyable and offered an element of peace and quiet for the short time we were there. It isn’t very big and took us around 1 hour to go around!

Rooftop Pool/ Bar

A rooftop pool or bar is definitely worth visiting during your time in KL. You can expect a great atmosphere but more importantly a fantastic view looking over the active district of Bukit Bintang. There are many different accommodation options available that offer a rooftop pool or bar as part of the package so definitely worth bearing in mind before booking. If you don’t have access to this facility where you are staying, we are pretty sure you should be able to visit another hotel or apartment block to spend some time and get a picture of the beautiful skyline.

Nature Parks… (including Genting Highlands!)

An obvious mention, but of course! Outside Kuala Lumpur there is a fantastic opportunity to explore the untouched and pure beauty of Malaysia. There are numerous nature parks and rain forests along with excursions that you venture out to if you have a day or two spare! We would recommend planning this in advance to make the best of your day as travelling could range anywhere between a 2- 8-hour round trip! We would also recommend looking beforehand at guided tours or approved car hire services to take you around if you don’t feel comfortable making your own way.
The Genting Highlands is a hotel/ Casino tucked away in the middle of Malaysia surrounded by beautiful greenery and a rain forest environment. You can even get a cable car to take you above and across the beautiful rain forest to give you some amazing 360 views!
