Top places to Eat in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur, much like every other major city in South East Asia offers traditional food which can be found on every road! With a mix of restaurant and food vendors camped on the energetic streets it makes a great atmosphere for going on your food exploring adventure!

Here are a few of our recommends and thoughts about where to eat in Kuala Lumpur!

  • Jalan Alor (The Best Street Food location!)

Jalan Alor is in the heart of Bukit Bintang and has so much to offer. You’ll find tens of food vendors servicing BBQ’d seafood/meat, fresh fruit and veg as well as dim sum. Hidden behind the vendors are more established street food restaurants that are equally as authentic. We ate here on several occasions from different vendors. Our favourite dish was fried dry chilli chicken accompanied with steamed vegetables, rice and noodles. And of course, a local beer! Not only was the food tasty and fresh…. it was also super cheap (it tallied up to £22 for the two of us and we were stuffed).

  • Wizards at Tribeca

The breakfast from Wizards at Tribeca was included in the price of our room. Although the menu was fixed for hotel guests there was still plenty of dishes to choose from. We were really pleased with the high standard of food we ate here! They also made fresh juices which were ideal for the hot weather as they helped cool us down. We would definitely recommend giving the Wizards at Tribeca a go for brunch or even dinner!

GravyBaby

Famous for their pies, GravyBaby was our favourite place to dine! The food here was exceptional and they had a selection of rich dishes from cuisines all around the world. The coconut thai chicken soup was everything and more you could possibly want. If you’re looking to relax and unwind, there is a wide range of cocktails bursting with flavour. The Irish mudslide was Suresh’s favourite cockatil/dessert. You will not be disappointed with this place!

  • McDonald’s  (Not what we thought!)

Nine time out of ten, McDonalds is usually a safe bet for getting something you can almost guarantee you’ll like or be familiar with but when going overseas it’s interesting to see what local dishes they do! In Kuala Lumpur we were not keen on the local twist they had put on their menu. The Rice and chicken meal got a 10 for effort but a 4 for taste! We would definitely recommend to get your local dishes from the local authentic food vendors! The McFlurry however was definitely worth the try as they put a spin on it by incorporating two flavours into one!

  • Other Street vendors! (From all over the City)

There were tons of different food vendors dotted around the streets of Bukit Bintang which we tried on countless occasions and we would recommend you do the same. We would suggest having a little browse around before eating at your chosen place for the level of hygiene to reduce your chances of becoming ill! You have to remember these vendors and street food stalls are not the 5* restaurants however they have an authentic feel as well as ingredients and flavours that have been perfected for hundreds of years!
